Dave Cunningham

Publicity Team

Dave Cunningham is PLPA's Editor in Chief. He joined the board in 2021.

Born and raised in Southern California, Dave retired to the Pacific Northwest in 2007, initially moving to Port Townsend and finally settling in Port Ludlow 10 years later. Unable to grasp math or engineering as his father did, Dave's career centered on the fine arts: he was mostly a journalist but also at various times was an author, radio newscaster, artist, drummer and actor (stage, TV and film, but mostly minor roles).

He did win some national and regional writing awards and was lucky enough to interview four U.S. Presidents (Nixon, Carter, Clinton and George W. Bush), entertainers from Aretha Franklin to Frank Sinatra, and sports stars from Muhammad Ali to O.J. Simpson. His articles were published in the Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, The Sporting News, The Orlando Sentinel and hundreds of other periodicals worldwide.

Dave taught creative writing at California State University (Fullerton) after spending most of his career as a sportswriter, covering major-league baseball, NFL and college football, and the NBA. He served as president of the nation's oldest professional writing organization, the California Writers Club, and was vice president of the Baseball Writers Association of America/Los Angeles chapter. But his most rewarding experience was having two brilliant and successful children and six amazing grandchildren.
